Saturday STEP training Empty Saturday STEP training

Hey, so if you don't like the idea of each picking a topic and teaching it, definitely say so 'cuz i don't want to volunteer somebody for extra work they don't want or can't handle. I'll start working on the Plan of Action, what topics do you all want to work on? I was brainstorming and thought of this stuff:

    - actually practicing dining hall procedures. like, everything from marching up to eating and exiting properly. If we actually go through the whole thing, I think we'll be able to perform under pressure a lot better than if we just study it.

    - bringing clothes and stuff and actually making the personal hygiene, top clothing, and bottom clothing drawers. again, if we actually do it once, it'll be so much easier to do the first night of field training

    - practicing the drill competition on a 70' by 70' pad

    - Open Ranks Inspection (we should be pretty good with this, just maybe go through it a couple times to make sure we're able to do it well)

    - SABC lesson

    - GLP (could incorporate stuff from the Airman's Manual)

i think this is a great idea! because i know we've all been meaning to get together and kind of just talk about/go over what we've been studying at our desks. so i would say totally go for the plan, but for this to be successful & helpful attendance is imperative...so can we please set the date for this saturday to make it a definite?

Saturday 21st & 28th are good in the afternoon.

    ps. good work today!

I agree with Boyajian and Dalida. These lesson are important. The more we practice, the easier it will be at Field Training. The saturday lesson would have to be in the afternoon, i hope this works for all of you. We should use these extra lessons to go over the things that we are struggling with at LLAB, and dont have time to go over at Field Training Prep. The dinning hall procedures would be a good one to go over, Boyajian. I like the way you cadets think. Sometimes C/Randazzo's hand drawn diagrams just do not help me learn, i know im more a visual learner, i not sure about the rest of you. But i think it would most likely help all of you too if we went through the motions of each procedure, instead of just hearing what to do.

sorry if this is kind of repetitive. Good work everyone, keep it up!

In reference to what meiers was saying...i also mentioned this in the dining procedures forum...

I'm making a sweet power point to that will help visually with little red dot cadets and blue star flight commanders. you'll see...hahaha. So, if we're going to separate topics and teach it to each other, I've got dining procedures. But FIRST, lets decide if we will do this and the date.

    02 March 2009

    MEMORANDUM FOR: OG/CC

    FROM: C/3C

    SUBJECT: GMC Support Staff

    1. The objective of this memo is to present a plan of action for a Saturday STEP session. This memo addresses the purpose of conducting a Saturday STEP training session, details the cadets who would be involved, and presents the tentative curriculum to be covered.

    2. The purpose of conducting a Saturday STEP training session is to provide extra time outside of the scheduled Leadership Laboratory activities to prepare for Field Training. The AS200 cadets feel that we are able to retain more information through action. We can always study the Field Training Manual, but book knowledge does not always equate to operational competence. Although we may be able to describe dining hall procedures, we might not be able to actually perform them correctly. By training on a Saturday, we could allot more than two hours to dedicated STEP activities.

    3. All of the AS200 cadets would have the option of participating in both a planning and a participatory role. The AS200s would plan the activity, and assign a different AS200 to teach pre-determined topics to the rest of the class. The reason why an AS200 will teach is because we feel that we can retain more information when forced to explain it to others. While the AS200s will do the planning and teaching, it is still important to have experienced cadets and officers present to make corrections, evaluate the class, and present an intense environment. Any detachment cadre, STEP cadre, or POC who are willing to participate may volunteer to do so.

    4. There are several subjects that would be included in the curriculum. We would like to practice dining hall procedures, practice dorm maintenance, conduct flight drill on a 70’ by 70’ pad, perform an open ranks inspection, have a self-aid buddy care lesson, and complete group leadership problems that incorporate Airman’s Manual knowledge.

    5. If there are any questions I may be contact by cell phone at (609) 760-1508 or by e-mail at gregoryboyajian@gmail.com. Thank you very much for your time!
